Loading...احتفل منتدى تمكين المرأة العربية الامريكية التابع للجنة العربيه الأمريكية لمكافحة التمييز بيوم المرأه العالمي يوم ٣١ مارس ٢٠١٥ في فندق الريتز كارلتون في العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن. بحضور عدد هائل من أعضاء الجالية العربية من كافه أنحاء الولايات المتحده والشخصيات السياسية و نواب الكونجرس والسفراء العرب والشخصيات العامة ورموز الإعلام والصحافه وعدد من رجال الأعمال الأميركيين.
افتتح المؤتمر د. دعاء مجاهد طه رئيسة المنتدى، وكان من المكرمين الإعلامية المصرية جيهان منصور، والنائبة البرلمانية الأردنيه هند الفائز، والمرشح السابق للرئاسة الأمريكية رالف نادر، ومي ريحاني المتخصصة في ميدان تعليم الفتيات.
وتحدث كل من سعادة السفيرة الأمريكية وندي شامبرلين، رئيسة معهد الشرق الأوسط في واشنطن، و د. ميلاني جرينبرج، رئيسة الائتلاف لبناء السلام في واشنطن، و د. أسامة ابي مرشد، مدير مركز الدراسات العربية الحديثة في جامعة جورج تاون، و سليمه حداوي الباحثة في جامعه جورج تاون، و دانيا كركر، مديرة التنسيق لمركز الانتخابات والديمقراطية.
وقد صرحت الدكتوره دعاء مجاهد طه، رئيسه منتدى تمكين المراه، بانه بات واجباً على النساء والرجال التصدي لمواجهه التطرّف بكل أشكاله.
ADC-Women’s Empowerment Forum stresses importance of promoting Women’s Rights to confront Extremism
The 2015 International Women’s Day Celebration hosted by the ADC Women’s Empowerment Forum was opened by its founding Chair, Dr. Doaa Taha and followed by a “Women for Peace” Seminar which explored the relationships between Women’s Empowerment and Peace, and had notable interventions expressing Arab-American Women’s and the wider Community’s robust stance against all forms of extremist or fundamentalist discourse and any attitudes based on ignorance, intolerance and all forms of discrimination.
Dr. Taha, Chair of the Women’s Empowerment Forum, reminded the audience that “Recent Polls indicate that Women’s top three priorities are: 1) Peace; 2) Civil Rights; 3) Economic Security. With the profound imbalances that characterize the current state of the world, it is easy to see why we believe that women should be empowered.”
Key speakers also noted that much of the unrest in the Arab World is the direct result of successive misguided geo-political and military foreign interventions.
The Seminar, which was followed by an Awards and Keynote Gala Dinner at the Washington DC Ritz-Carlton Hotel, was moderated by Dr. Osama Abi-Mershed, Director of the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and included Her Excellency The Honorable US Ambassador Wendy Chamberlin, President of the Middle East Institute, Dr. Melanie Greenberg, the President & CEO of the Alliance for Peacebuilding, Dr. Souleyma Haddaoui, Visiting Scholar & Researcher at Georgetown University and Dania Korkor, Representation 2020 Coordinator at the Center for Voting and Democracy. The Event was also addressed by Dr. Safa Rifka, Chair of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, the oldest, largest and best-established American-Arab civil society organization dealing with the protection of civil rights, in line with the values of the American Constitution.
Awards went to Jordanian Woman Parliamentarian The Hon. Hind Al-Fayez, MP, to Ms. Jihan Mansour, Egyptian Star Media TV Anchor at Tahrir TV, Mr. Ralph Nader, Consumer Rights Advocate and Former Presidential Candidate and Ms. May Rihani, Advocate of Girls’ Education and Women’s Empowerment, who gave the Keynote Speech.
In attendance (with 55% Women and 45% Men), in a hugely successful and packed event, were leaders from the realms of Politics, Government, Diplomacy, Civil Society, Academia, Media, Private Business, Culture, the Arts, Sports, Science, Medicine, and all walks of life.
